Safety Notice

1 Safety Instructions

To ensure personal and equipment safety, you must read and strictly comply with this notice before using collaborative robots from AUBO (Beijing) Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as AUBO). This notice applies to all AUBO collaborative robot systems (including the robot body, controller, wired handle, cables, software, and accessories). Integrators must ensure that the system complies with the safety standards of the deployment location.

This notice is a supplementary safety document. For complete operating instructions, refer to the product manual.

1.1 Definition of Safety Symbols

This notice uses the following warning symbols to define the standards for different hazard levels.

SymbolDescription
Fatal danger: failure to avoid will result in death or serious injury.
Serious danger: failure to avoid will result in personal injury or serious equipment damage.
General danger: failure to avoid will result in personal injury or equipment damage, and may cause major consequences under certain circumstances.

1.2 Operator Qualifications and Protection

Operators, commissioning personnel, and maintenance personnel must complete official AUBO training (or training by an AUBO-authorized distributor) and obtain operating qualifications (training inquiries: support@aubo-robotics.cn). Untrained personnel are strictly prohibited from entering the robot working area.

Tie back long hair, do not wear loose clothing, and do not wear jewelry during operation. A stationary robot may be in a ready-to-start state and should be treated as continuously operating; do not approach it at will. In an emergency, the robot arm may be pushed manually to escape a dangerous situation, but this is only allowed in emergencies and may damage the joints.

1.3 Risk Assessment Before Use

Before the first startup and after each installation, a risk assessment must be carried out for all scenarios including teaching, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Focus on preventing hazards from end tools, hazardous substances, joint clamping, and collisions, and reduce risks to an acceptable level by limiting motion or configuring safety functions.

1.4 Intended Use

This robot is intended only for manipulating tools, processing, or transferring parts, and human-robot collaboration must be based on applications without major hazards. The following uses are strictly prohibited: flammable and explosive environments, carrying people or loads, medical equipment involving human life, installations with major social or public impact, vibrating environments such as vehicles and ships, and climbing tools.

SymbolDescription
1. Use the industrial robot only for the intended use described in the user manual.

2. This product is not suitable for hazardous locations or explosive atmospheres.

3. This product is not suitable for medical applications involving contact with or proximity to patients.

2 Operational Safety

2.1 Emergency Handling

2.1.1 Emergency Stop Device

Pressing the emergency stop button stops all robot motion. The emergency stop cannot be used as a risk reduction measure, but it can be used as secondary protective equipment. If multiple emergency stop buttons must be connected, they must be included in the risk assessment of the robot application.

The robot arm body is not equipped with a button-type emergency stop device, but the controller, wired teach pendant, control handle, and other devices are. For details, refer to the applicable controller user manual or accessory user manual.

SymbolDescription
If the tool or device connected to the robot end poses a potential hazard, it must be connected to the system emergency stop circuit; failure to do so may result in death, serious personal injury, or major property damage.

2.1.2 Recovering from the Emergency State

The emergency stop button must be rotated to release it, and before recovery you must confirm that the hazard has been eliminated. In an emergency, the robot joints may be dragged manually, but only in emergencies, and this may damage the joints.

SymbolDescription
1. Recovering from the emergency stop state is a simple but very important step, and it must be performed only after making sure that all hazards of the robot system have been eliminated.

2. Forcibly moving the robot arm by hand is limited to emergencies and may damage the robot arm joints.

2.1.3 Safety Protection Functions

  • Collision protection: There are three selectable responses after a collision: floating mode (the robot stops and enters drag teaching mode, so it can be dragged to a safe position manually), static mode (the robot stops and remains stationary), and brake mode (the robot stops and applies the brake, remaining stationary).
  • Safety configuration: The following safety configurations can be customized: safety I/O, joint limits, robot limits, safety home position, 3-position switch, tool flange, safety plane, and obstacle marking. For detailed instructions, refer to the product manual or official documentation.

2.2 Installation Safety Requirements

2.2.1 Environment and Load Capacity

The robot arm must be installed in an environment of 0~45℃ that is dry and away from areas with heavy dust, strong spray, or dense metal chips, and must not be exposed to direct sunlight or used outdoors. Products without IP67 protection must not be installed in water or humid environments. The mounting surface must withstand 10 times the torsional force of the base joint and 5 times the arm weight, without vibration.

The controller and teach pendant must be kept away from corrosion, strong electromagnetic interference, and other harmful factors, protected from direct sunlight and outdoor use, with sufficient heat dissipation space and dust and water protection. Controllers with IP30 protection must be placed in a clean, dry indoor area and strictly protected from dust and moisture; controllers with IP20 protection must be installed in an enclosed, clean space to prevent foreign objects from touching them and moisture from causing short circuits.

SymbolDescription
1. A damp controller may cause injury or death.

2. Pay close attention to environments with conductive dust.

2.2.2 Equipment Installation

  • Robot arm: The contact surface with the base must fit tightly. In environments above 35℃, heat-dissipating materials such as all-aluminum are recommended to prevent tipping or damage.
  • Controller: Place it horizontally and leave 50 mm of heat dissipation space on both sides.
  • Teach pendant: Hang it up to prevent the cable from being stepped on.
  • End tool: Ensure it is firmly installed to prevent parts from falling.

After installation, the risk assessment must be repeated to ensure compliance with safety requirements.

2.3 First Startup

Before starting the equipment for the first time, the following key points must be clarified in advance:

  • Confirm that the equipment is complete and undamaged and that the installation complies with specifications.
  • Test all safety functions and parameters. Safety parameters must be set and password-protected by authorized personnel.
  • Brakes are installed in the robot arm joint modules to maintain the robot posture when power is off. Do not power off frequently; it is recommended that the interval between power-on and power-off be greater than 10 s.
  • The robot arm and controller heat up during operation and immediately after shutdown; after power-off, wait 1 hour for cooling before touching them.
  • Do not expose the robot to permanent magnetic fields for long periods. Strong magnetic fields can damage the robot.
  • Do not connect safety devices to general-purpose I/O interfaces; safety devices may only use safety-type interfaces.
  • Ensure sufficient space for robot arm movement, make sure tools have no sharp corners, and keep personnel heads and faces away from the range of motion.
  • Do not start the robot if it is damaged or its parameters are abnormal; after startup, keep records of the risk assessment.

3 General Safety and Maintenance

3.1 Handling and Transportation

  • When hoisting the robot, properly secure the moving parts;
  • Pack the robot according to the packaging standard and mark the outside of the box as required;
  • Ensure the equipment is firmly secured during transportation;
